CD-R Final Inspection With Disc Grading |
The compact discs are sorted in different categories based on the inspection results and user programmed classes. Grades A,B,C, and D are possible, where A is always passed and D is always scrap. Discs that are graded B are of less quality than grade A, and grades C are of less quality than grade B, but overall are not considered scrap. The grading rules fall into two classes. First, flaw classification bins may be assigned a grade of B,C, or D. Flaw classifications define rejection criteria based on radial, tangential, and diagonal length, area, optical qualities, and position of defects, as well as the number allowed for the definition. Discs with flaws that meet the qualifications of a specific flaw have the associated grade assigned to it which is the worst grade assigned used when determining the overall grade of the disc. The areas of all defects is totaled and compared to maximum areas allowed for grades A,B, and C. The flaw area is totaled separately for lower and upper sides of the disk, and compared to the limits defined for each side of the disk. The worst grade assigned between lower and upper sides is used when determining the overall grade of the disc. The total flaw area is displayed on the flawmap. The overall grade assigned to the disc is the worst grade resulting from flaw classification failures and total flaw area failures. Digital outputs allow the handling system to sort discs by grade.
